Aircraft Locksmith South Florida — Ignition Keys, Door Locks & Baggage Locks for All General Aviation
South Florida is one of the most active general aviation markets in the United States. Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Opa-locka Executive Airport, North Perry Airport, Boca Raton Airport, Palm Beach International, Pompano Beach Airpark, and dozens of smaller general aviation fields throughout the region are home to thousands of privately owned aircraft — Cessnas, Pipers, Beechcrafts, Cirruses, Mooneys, King Airs, and many more. When a pilot loses an aircraft ignition key, finds themselves locked out of a cabin door or baggage compartment, or needs locks serviced on a general aviation aircraft in South Florida, the options have historically been limited.
Bike n Boat Locksmith fills that gap. We are South Florida's dedicated mobile locksmith for motorcycles, marine vessels, and aircraft — and aircraft locksmith work is one of the most specialized and least commonly offered services in our market. We come to your hangar, your tiedown spot, or your ramp location throughout South Florida and handle aircraft ignition key replacement, cabin door lock service, baggage compartment lock service, and related aircraft security work on-site. No need to remove the aircraft from service for a lock shop appointment.
Call us at (954) 932-0736 for a free quote on your aircraft. Tell us the make, model, and year and we will confirm what we can do for you before we dispatch.
Why Aircraft Lock and Key Work Is Different From Automotive
If you have replaced a key for your car or motorcycle before, aircraft key and lock work operates on different principles — and understanding these differences explains why calling a specialist matters.
General Aviation Ignition Keys — Fewer Cuts Than You Think
One of the most significant facts about general aviation aircraft keys that surprises most pilots is how limited the key cut variety actually is across the major manufacturers. Cessna, in particular, has used a relatively small number of distinct key cut patterns across their entire single-engine piston lineup over decades of production. The same key blank — identified by codes like the Ilco LF12, the Ilco X132, or similar — covers a wide range of Cessna models from the 172 through the 182 and beyond.
Piper aircraft door locks have historically used generic lock cylinders that share key blanks with commercial applications — office drawer locks, cabinet locks — which means a skilled locksmith with the right blanks can often cut a Piper door key without aviation-specific parts. Piper ignition switches typically use different and slightly more specific key profiles.
Beechcraft aircraft have used a range of lock configurations across their model history, and the specific key blank and cut code varies more by individual aircraft and the specific lock hardware installed — including whether aftermarket locks from suppliers like Medeco or ACS Products have been fitted at any point in the aircraft's maintenance history.
Aviation-Specific Key Blanks
Aircraft ignition switches made by major manufacturers — including the ACS Products A-510-2 FAA-PMA approved ignition switch widely used throughout general aviation — use specific key blanks that most general locksmiths do not stock. These blanks are identified by codes stamped on the ignition face, and replacement keys can be ordered by code or cut from the correct blank by a locksmith who carries aviation-specific key stock.
We carry key blanks appropriate for the most common general aviation ignition switches and door lock configurations encountered in Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, and other major general aviation platforms.
The Lock-Out Situation — No Key, Locked Cabin
Losing the only key to a general aviation aircraft creates a situation that many pilots do not anticipate until it happens. Unlike a car where a locksmith can typically use standard entry tools, aircraft cabin door designs vary significantly by manufacturer and model — and some designs make non-destructive entry without the key challenging.
We assess each aircraft situation individually before advising an approach. Depending on the specific aircraft and lock configuration, the solution may be key decoding and cutting from the lock, a replacement key by code from the ignition stamp, or in some cases a lock cylinder replacement. We advise honestly before starting any work.
Aircraft Locksmith Services We Provide
Aircraft Ignition Key Replacement
Lost your aircraft ignition key? We come to your hangar or ramp location and cut a replacement ignition key for your aircraft. We use the key code stamped on the ignition switch face to cut the correct key without needing an original to copy from — no original key required in most cases for common ignition switch types.
For ACS Products ignition switches, Bendix/TCM ignition switches, and other common general aviation ignition hardware, we carry or can source the correct key blank and cut to the stamped code.
Important note: We cut replacement keys for ignition switches. We do not perform aircraft maintenance, avionics work, or magneto service. Any work affecting airworthiness is referred to an appropriately licensed A&P mechanic. Key cutting and lock service on the mechanical lock cylinder itself does not require A&P involvement and is within the scope of locksmith work.
Aircraft Cabin Door Lock Service
Locked out of your aircraft cabin? We assess the specific door lock configuration on your aircraft and advise the most appropriate non-destructive entry approach. Common aircraft cabin door locks — particularly on older Cessna and Piper models — use lock cylinders that a skilled locksmith can decode or pick without damaging the lock.
We also service worn or stiff aircraft cabin door lock cylinders — cleaning, lubricating, and in some cases rekeying or replacing cylinders that have become difficult to operate. A stiff cabin door lock on an aircraft is a safety concern as well as an inconvenience — a lock that requires excessive force to operate is a distraction during preflight.
Aircraft Baggage Compartment Lock Service
Baggage compartment locks on general aviation aircraft are some of the most commonly worn lock components on older aircraft — they see frequent use and are often exposed to weather. We service baggage compartment lock cylinders, cut replacement keys, and advise on lock replacement for baggage compartments that have become unreliable.
Piper Cherokee, Arrow, and Warrior baggage locks — the factory Piper baggage lock uses a generic lock cylinder that shares key blanks with common commercial applications. We carry the correct blanks and service these locks on-site.
Cessna baggage compartment locks — we service Cessna baggage door locks and cut replacement keys matched to the ignition key where the aircraft uses a matched key set.
Aircraft Lock Cylinder Replacement
When an aircraft door lock or baggage lock cylinder is worn beyond serviceability — keys no longer turn smoothly, the cylinder is loose in the housing, or the lock has been damaged — we replace the cylinder on-site and cut a new key matched to the replacement. For aircraft where matching the ignition and door keys is important, we can rekey replacement door cylinders to match the existing ignition key.
Spare Key Cutting
One of the most valuable and most overlooked services for aircraft owners is simply having a spare key made. General aviation pilots who keep their ignition and door keys on a single keyring — common practice — are one lost keyring away from a significant operational disruption. We cut spare keys for all common general aviation ignition switches and door locks and strongly recommend every aircraft owner have at least one spare set stored separately.
Aircraft We Service in South Florida
We provide locksmith services for the following general aviation aircraft categories throughout South Florida:
Cessna Single-Engine Piston
Cessna 150, 152, 162 Skycatcher, 172 Skyhawk, 177 Cardinal, 182 Skylane, 185 Skywagon, 206 Stationair, 207, 210 Centurion — the Cessna single-engine piston lineup is the most common aircraft in general aviation and the most common aircraft locksmith call we receive. Cessna key blanks are relatively standardized across the single-engine piston range and we carry the appropriate stock for all common Cessna ignition and door lock configurations.
Cessna Twin-Engine Piston
Cessna 310, 337 Skymaster, 340, 402, 404, 414, 421 — the Cessna twin piston lineup. These aircraft use similar lock systems to the single-engine range with some model-specific variations.
Piper Single-Engine Piston
Piper PA-28 Cherokee, Warrior, Archer, Arrow, Cadet, Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six, Lance, Saratoga, Piper PA-24 Comanche, Piper PA-18 Super Cub, Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer — the Piper single-engine piston range. Factory Piper door locks have historically used generic commercial lock cylinders. We carry the appropriate blanks and service all Piper single-engine door and baggage locks throughout South Florida.
Piper Twin-Engine Piston
Piper PA-34 Seneca, PA-44 Seminole, PA-23 Apache, PA-31 Navajo, PA-31T Cheyenne — Piper twin piston platforms. We service door and baggage lock cylinders and cut replacement keys for all common Piper twin configurations.
Beechcraft Single and Twin Piston
Beechcraft Bonanza (all variants — A36, G36, V35, F33), Baron (55, 58), Travel Air, Sierra, Sundowner, Musketeer, Skipper — the Beechcraft piston lineup. Beechcraft has used a range of lock configurations across their model history. We assess the specific lock hardware installed on your aircraft before advising approach and sourcing the correct key blank.
Cirrus Aircraft
Cirrus SR20 and SR22 — the modern composite single-engine lineup that has become one of the most popular general aviation platforms. Cirrus aircraft use specific ignition and door lock configurations that differ from the classic Cessna and Piper designs. We service Cirrus aircraft lock and key situations throughout South Florida.
Mooney
Mooney M20 series — the efficient and fast single-engine piston. Mooney has its own lock configuration history. We assess and advise on a per-aircraft basis.
Turboprop — King Air, TBM, Pilatus
Beechcraft King Air (90, 100, 200, 300, 350 series), Daher TBM (700, 850, 900, 910, 940), Pilatus PC-12 — turboprop aircraft represent the upper end of general aviation and a significant presence in South Florida's charter and owner-flown market. These aircraft use more sophisticated lock hardware than piston singles and may use aviation-specific high security lock systems. We assess each turboprop situation individually and advise honestly on what we can accomplish before dispatching.
Light Sport and Experimental Aircraft
Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) and Experimental/Amateur-Built aircraft often use a wide variety of lock hardware depending on the builder's choices and the kit manufacturer's design. We assess each situation individually.
Helicopters
Robinson R22, R44, R66, Bell 206 JetRanger, Eurocopter AS350, and other general aviation helicopters. Helicopter door and ignition lock configurations vary by manufacturer and model. Call us with your specific helicopter and we will confirm capability before dispatching.

An Important Note — Aircraft Locksmith Scope of Work
We want to be clear about what aircraft locksmith work includes and what it does not. Locksmith work on aircraft covers the mechanical lock cylinder — the physical key, the tumbler, the door latch lock mechanism — and does not include any work affecting the aircraft's airworthiness, avionics, electrical system, or engine components.
When we cut a replacement ignition key for your aircraft, we are cutting a key to fit the mechanical lock cylinder that controls the ignition switch. The electrical and magneto functions of the ignition system are entirely separate and are not touched during locksmith work.
Any work beyond mechanical lock and key service — ignition switch replacement, avionics, structural door repairs — is referred to your A&P mechanic. We work alongside the aviation maintenance community, not in place of it.
Frequently Asked Questions — Aircraft Locksmith South Florida
Can you cut a Cessna ignition key without the original key?
Yes — in most cases. Cessna ignition switches have a code number stamped on the face of the switch. We use this code to cut a replacement key to the correct specification without needing an original key to copy from. If the code is not visible or legible we can decode the cylinder directly on-site.
Can you replace a Piper Cherokee cabin door key?
Yes. The factory Piper Cherokee door lock uses a generic commercial lock cylinder. We carry the appropriate key blanks and can cut a replacement door key at your hangar or ramp location. If you have lost both the ignition key and door key we address both during the same visit.
Is aircraft locksmith work legal without an A&P license?
Yes. Cutting keys and servicing lock cylinders on aircraft doors, baggage compartments, and ignition switches falls within the scope of locksmith work and does not require an A&P license. Lock cylinder service does not affect airworthiness. Replacing the ignition switch itself — the electrical component — does require A&P involvement. We stay within our scope and refer electrical work to your mechanic.
Can you come to my hangar at Fort Lauderdale Executive?
Yes. FXE is one of our most common aircraft locksmith locations. We come to your hangar, your tiedown, or your FBO ramp. Call us with your location on the field and we come directly to the aircraft.
How much does aircraft locksmith service cost in South Florida?
Cost depends on the aircraft type, the specific service required, and whether a key can be cut by code or requires cylinder decoding. We give free upfront quotes when you call with your aircraft details. Aircraft locksmith work is priced similarly to specialty automotive locksmith work — fair and transparent before any work begins.
I lost both the ignition key and cabin door key for my Beechcraft. Can you make both?
Yes. We address all lock points in a single visit. Ignition key, cabin door key, and baggage compartment key — we assess all of them and complete whatever we can in one on-site visit.
Do you service King Air and turboprop aircraft?
Yes — for lock and key service within locksmith scope. King Air and turboprop aircraft use more sophisticated lock hardware than piston singles. Call us with your specific aircraft and we will confirm what we can do before dispatching.
Can you rekey aircraft door locks to match my ignition key?
In many cases yes — particularly for Cessna and aircraft using standard commercial lock cylinders in door and baggage positions. If the door cylinder uses a compatible blank to the ignition we can rekey it to match. This is one of the most convenient services we offer for aircraft owners who want a single key to operate everything.
Do you service aircraft 24 hours a day?
Yes. We are available 24 hours a day throughout South Florida. Pilots who discover a key issue before an early morning departure do not have to wait until business hours.
I have a helicopter at Opa-locka. Can you service helicopter door locks?
Yes — we service helicopter door lock and key situations throughout South Florida. Call us with your specific helicopter model and we will confirm capability and response time to OPF.
